ABOUT

Mehdi Marzyari Architects (Me-Mar) is an interdisciplinary architectural practice working across different project types and scales ranging from small house renovation and retail fit-out to multi-unit residential and commercial buildings. We believe each project is a question with limitless responses as well as an opportunity for architectural exploration, innovation and inspiration while reflecting the client’s pragmatic requirements and aspiration. Each project is a truly unique journey that we take with our client. Our projects are never alike and each tells a unique story about the client. We have a common belief with our clients that ‘a good design is a good business’ and we are committed to design excellence from early design through detail design and construction. In order to achieve responsive architectural solutions, we work closely with our clients, consultants and contractors at every stage of a project from conception to realization.

At Me-Mar, we practice the following principals and exercise them through each project:

Process

Respecting process rather than end product, we believe each project evolves through a unique approach and design process resulting in an exclusive architectural solution. Exploration, context, client aspiration, precedents, typology, materiality, and more contribute to a project creation from the beginning to the end. Therefore the end product is a unique architectural response reflecting the project evolution process rather than initial visualization.

Context

We believe in thoughtful and impactful architecture that speaks to its context at a multitude of scales. Each project is a defined architectural response unique to its surrounding fabric. Therefore we strive to create buildings that are contextual sensitive yet distinct and pronounced, differentiated from its conventional counterparts.

Public Realm

Despite a project size and scale, we believe that every building contributes to its public realm and community. Whether a heritage house restoration, a new infill house, multi-unit townhomes or a commercial building we see each one of our projects as a potential opportunity for public realm and community enhancement. We challenge ourselves and our clients to give to our community and city rather than taking from them.

Sustainability

Being a member of Canada Green Building Council, each project is a chance to challenge environmental impact reduction and achieve well-being of its users. We employ sustainability principals from early design through construction documentation and execution. We guide our clients with the belief that sustainable design considerations contribute to building’s longevity and life-cycle cost reduction while minimizing environmental negative effect.

PEOPLE

MEHDI MARZYARI
MArch, OAA, MRAIC, LEED AP

Mehdi was born and raised in Tehran-Iran where he received his master of architecture from Shahid Beheshti University (Melli) in 2001. After collaboration with renowned architectural firms in Tehran, he co-founded Zavieh Architecture Office in 2004. Despite short life of the office, Mehdi was in charge of design and management of quite few local and national projects which led the office to a recognized and award winning young and emerging practice in Iran.

In 2008, Mehdi made Toronto his new home in order to expand his professional experience. Collaboration with acclaimed Toronto-based architectural firms of Montgomery Sisam Architects and CS&P Architects as a key contributor to the firms’ projects ranging from school renovation to large hospital and high-rise condominium helped him translate his professional skills in the new region. In late 2013, he established Mehdi Marzyari Architects (Me-Mar) to pursue his professional goals and ambitions.

Me-Mar is born and emerged through a heritage dwelling extensive alteration commission in downtown Toronto which Mehdi embraced it as an exceptional opportunity to start his new journey. Since then, the practice was involved in different project types and scales from small house renovation to multi-unit residential and commercial buildings with unique approach and response to each.

Mehdi is registered architect in Canada and Iran, member of Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, member of Toronto Society of Architects and LEED Accredited Professional.
